About Liam
I’m Liam Collins, originally from a small village in upstate New York called Stamford. I attended Stamford Central School where I was captain of the soccer team, a member of the honor society, and graduated in June 2014. After high school, I pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Physics at SUNY Geneseo, graduating in May 2018. I then moved on to pursue a Master's Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Watson School of Engineering at SUNY Binghamton, where I completed several engineering internships.
During my last semester, I was offered a position in the engineering rotational program at BAE Systems in a Systems Engineering role developing algorithms. I also co-founded the BAE Systems Rocket Club in November 2020, dedicated to building a class II, level II amateur rocket with thrust vector control.
In August 2020, I decided to pursue an M.S. in Astronautical Engineering at the University of Southern California, where I was recruited by the Liquid Propulsion Laboratory (LPL) in September 2020. At LPL, I collaborated with other students to design and construct liquid oxygen/kerosene rocket engines and test stands.
I relocated to Houston, Texas in January of 2022 to work as a Propulsion Systems Engineer at Axiom Space. In this role, I contribute to building the world’s first commercial space station, which is slotted to berth with the ISS and remain in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) long after ISS end of life.
When I’m not working or studying, I enjoy exploring the outdoors. I've hiked numerous high peaks in the Adirondacks, and I mountain bike daily when the weather is good. I recently got my SCUBA certification and try to go diving as much as I can. In July of 2021, I successfully reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro after a 6-day expedition. I also like to read and play guitar in my spare time. Lastly, in October 2020, I adopted a Maltipoo puppy named Kepler.
